Electrogenic Unveils Electric Conversion Kit for DeLorean DMC-12
Electrogenic, a company known for its electric vehicle conversions, has introduced a new ‘plug-and-play’ conversion package for the iconic DeLorean DMC-12. This conversion replaces the original V6 engine with a modern and powerful electric motor, offering a quieter and more efficient driving experience.
The Oxfordshire-based firm, which has previously electrified vehicles such as the Citroën DS, Land Rover Defender, and Jaguar E-Type, now offers a seamless EV conversion kit for the DMC-12. This conversion is fully reversible and transforms the classic coupe into a true sports car with enhanced power and performance.
The electric powertrain is designed to maintain the car’s original structure, with a high-quality 43kWh battery replacing the rear-mounted fuel tank and an electric motor integrated into the rear axle. The motor delivers 215bhp and 229lb ft of torque through a fixed-ratio gearbox, resulting in a 0-62mph time of just 5.0 seconds.
This conversion marks the first Electrogenic model to feature launch control, adding an exciting element to the driving experience. The kit can be installed on original DMC-12s with either manual or automatic transmissions, adding only 40kg to the car’s weight.
CEO Steve Drummond expressed his excitement about the project, stating that the DMC-12’s futuristic design and lackluster engine make it an ideal candidate for electric conversion. The battery provides a range of 150 miles and can be charged rapidly using regenerative braking technology.
Customers can customize their electrified DMC-12 with modern features like Apple CarPlay, upgraded air conditioning, and a virtual dashboard displaying driving modes and battery status. Pricing for the conversion ranges from £65,000 to £85,000 plus local taxes, depending on the condition of the donor car and installation costs.
