The Unique and Fascinating Cadillac EldoRODo Concept Car

A Time Capsule from GM’s Bankruptcy Era

During GM’s bankruptcy in the late 2000s, the company had to sell off various assets to stay afloat. This included concept, prototype, and show vehicles. One of these unique creations recently caught the attention of Tyler Hoover of Hoovies Garage – the Cadillac EldoRODo. This car, offloaded by GM, is a fascinating piece of automotive history.

A Love Letter to Hot Rod Culture

The EldoRODo was built in collaboration with California Street Rods for the LA Auto Show. It pays homage to hot rod culture while being based on a production Eldorado. Although not a ground-up concept car, it underwent significant exterior modifications. The most notable changes include a 4-inch drop in height through body chopping and channeling, a 2-inch suspension drop, and a 10-degree increase in windshield rake.

Unique Exterior Design

The EldoRODo features chopped bumpers, slimmer flush lighting units, and smoother body panels. Its Ignite Orange paintjob stands out, complemented by chrome dish wheels, integrated chrome exhaust outlets, and a new chrome grille. The interior and mechanical components remain largely unchanged, except for a new exhaust that gives the Northstar V8 engine a low, rumbling sound.

Challenges and Future Restoration

Despite its unique appeal, the EldoRODo comes with some challenges. Due to extensive body modifications, it has a junk title, making it difficult to register for road use. The dish wheels also pose a problem as the tires cannot be filled with air without removing the wheels entirely. Additionally, there are side-view cameras and electronic door poppers, but no screens or fob to activate them.

Tyler Hoover is determined to restore the EldoRODo to its former glory, even though it may never be road-legal again. The car holds significant historical value and requires extensive work to make it operational once more.
