Ford and GM Lack Electric Rivals to the Charger Daytona

Dodge’s new chief executive, Matt McAlear, believes that the brand can entice traditional muscle car enthusiasts to switch to electric power with the introduction of the new Charger Daytona. Unlike Ford and GM, who lack electric rivals to the Charger Daytona, Dodge sees this as a win for buyers.

Pricing and Models

The base price for the electric muscle car is $59,995, with the highest trim costing $73,190. Dodge has plans to release pricing for the twin-turbo six-cylinder models scheduled for next year.

The Strategy to Attract Customers

McAlear believes that pricing the electric Charger similarly to the older internal combustion engine (ICE) models will facilitate the transition for customers. He sees a compelling opportunity to bring people into the showroom to experience the new technology and fall in love with it. McAlear emphasizes the importance of showcasing what customers will get for their money and why they should consider test driving the new Charger EV.

Dodge’s Unique Selling Point

Dodge has always positioned itself as a brand focused on muscle cars and straight-line performance, rather than competing with pony cars like the Camaro and Mustang. McAlear believes that by offering an electric muscle car, Dodge can stand out in the market and help its fans showcase their personalities and desires.

Dealer Doubts and Future Models

Not everyone is convinced about the success of the electric Charger. Michael Harrington, the general manager of Huntington Beach Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram, expresses skepticism about the high price of the Charger EV and its ability to attract customers. However, Dodge has plans to release twin-turbocharged six-cylinder versions of the Charger in the first quarter of next year, and Harrington is hopeful that these models will be more affordable.
