A recent incident in Brooksville, Florida, highlighted this danger when a driver fleeing from police crashed a Dodge Challenger with two children on board, along with an adult passenger. Shockingly, authorities found a firearm, drugs, and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Initial Traffic Stop
It all started when an officer on routine traffic patrol noticed the Challenger speeding at 25 mph over the limit. After initiating a traffic stop, the driver initially pulled over but then accelerated away when asked to place the keys on the roof, reaching speeds of nearly 150 mph while trying to evade the pursuing patrol car.
The Chase
During the chase, a second police unit joined in and attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the Challenger. Despite making contact, the maneuver was unsuccessful, and the pursuit continued. The driver eventually lost control, collided with pedestrian infrastructure, and rolled into the highway median.
