Dongfeng Launches Affordable Nammi Box EV in Europe
Introduction
China’s Dongfeng is expanding its range in Europe with the launch of the Nammi Box, an affordable entry-level electric vehicle (EV) that competes with the Citroen ë-C3 and other budget-friendly electric models. Initially available in Switzerland, the Nammi Box is priced at CHF 21,990 (~€23,000 / ~$25,500).
Key Features
- The Nammi Box is equipped with a 42.3 kWh battery and a 94 hp electric motor.
- It offers a range of 193 miles, comparable to the Citroen ë-C3.
- Despite its low starting price, the interior of the Nammi Box is well-equipped.
Under the Hood
The Nammi Box is built on Dongfeng’s S3 platform and is powered by a compact 42.3 kWh battery pack. The battery drives a single electric motor with 94 hp. While Dongfeng offers a smaller 31.5 kWh battery option in China, it has not confirmed its availability in Europe. The car’s charging time is not specified, but it has a WLTP range of 193 miles (311 km).
Stylish Design
The Nammi Box boasts a visually appealing design that will attract style-conscious European buyers. Its front end features a sleek lower grille section and split headlights connected by a thin LED light bar. The car has flush door handles that deploy when needed, frameless windows, and the option for a contrasting white roof.
Luxurious Interior
Despite its affordable price, the Nammi Box offers a well-appointed interior. The driver is greeted by a two-tone leather steering wheel and a small screen displaying important vehicle details. The center of the dashboard features a large infotainment screen, complemented by sleek metal air vents. The white quilted leather on the door panels and lower half of the dashboard adds a touch of luxury to the cabin. The interior also includes a floating center console with ample storage space and a wireless phone charger.
Production and Import
Initially, Nammi Box models sold in Switzerland will be imported from China. However, Dongfeng is in talks with the Italian government to establish a factory in the country. If successful, this move would allow Dongfeng to produce the Nammi Box locally and avoid expensive import tariffs within the European Union.
