This hybrid system combines a 1.2-liter engine with a small battery and an electric motor, resulting in a nearly 20% improvement in efficiency. This upgrade allows the models to avoid government penalties and provides a smoother transition towards full electrification.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the DS 3 and DS 4 hybrids feature a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine operating on the Miller cycle. This engine has been specifically designed with hybridization in mind and boasts a new timing chain and variable geometry turbocharger. The powertrain delivers 134 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, paired with a new six-speed dual-clutch transmission and an integrated electric motor generating 28 hp and 41 lb-ft of torque. The small 0.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack powers the electric motor at low speeds, enhancing overall performance.
Efficiency and Pricing
The DS 3 Hybrid offers up to a 20% increase in efficiency compared to its non-hybrid counterpart, while the DS 4 Hybrid boasts a 16% improvement. Both models accelerate faster and have lower emissions and fuel consumption rates. Pricing for the DS 3 Hybrid starts at €35,200, while the DS 4 Hybrid begins at €39,950.
