Genesis G80 EV: A Reinvented Luxury Electric Saloon with More Range and Room

Genesis has unveiled the updated version of its Electrified G80 saloon, featuring an extended wheelbase, a larger battery, and a refreshed interior. This reinvented luxury electric saloon is set to arrive in the UK and other global markets next year, following its initial launch in Korea.

Setting the Electric Saloon Apart

The first-generation electric saloon, introduced in 2021, was derived from the petrol-powered G80, which is Genesis’ best-selling model worldwide. However, the electric variant has not achieved the same level of sales success as its sibling. To differentiate the two models, Genesis has positioned the Electrified G80 as a limousine.

One of the key updates is the extension of the wheelbase by 130mm, resulting in increased legroom and headroom for rear passengers. The additional space provides an extra 83mm of legroom and 20mm more headroom, enhancing passenger comfort. Furthermore, upgraded front and rear suspension bushings have been installed to reduce road vibrations and maintain driving stability.

The introduction of the new Chauffeur Mode takes passenger comfort to the next level. This mode optimizes the car for smoother acceleration and braking, while also adjusting the suspension settings to provide an even softer ride.

Luxurious Interior Enhancements

The interior of the Electrified G80 has received significant upgrades. Rear seats can now be adjusted in 14 different ways and reclined to a 40-degree angle. Window curtains have been added for privacy, and the doors can be conveniently opened and closed with the press of a button. The addition of ambient mood lamps and a 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system further enhances the luxurious experience.

The dashboard now features a new 28-inch OLED infotainment screen, dominating the center console. The crystal-shaped shifter and redesigned steering wheel add a touch of elegance to the cabin.

Extended Range with a New Battery

The updated Electrified G80 boasts a new 95kWh battery, sourced from the Kia EV9 SUV. This larger battery replaces the previous 87kWh pack, providing additional range. While the exact UK range figures have not been announced, it is expected to surpass the EV9’s 349-mile range. The current Electrified G80 offers a range of 323 miles.

Pricing for the current model starts at £69,905 in the UK.
