Audi is rumored to be preparing for the launch of a hardcore electric off-roader, as a distinctive prototype has been spotted testing at a company facility in Germany. The prototype, based on the upcoming Q6 E-tron Sportback, is noticeably taller and wider than the regular electric SUV.
Distinctive Design Features
The prototype showcases a more aggressive front bumper compared to the Q6, featuring redesigned daytime running lights and larger air intakes. It also sports swollen wheel arches to accommodate thick-walled all-terrain tires and is equipped with the same roof rack as the limited-run Audi Q8 E-tron Edition Dakar. These design elements suggest that Audi may be preparing a special version of the Q6 with a strong focus on off-road performance.
Possible Dakar Rally Tribute
Audi’s sudden withdrawal from the World Rally Raid Championship in March, shortly after winning the Dakar Rally, has led to speculation that the prototype could be a tribute to the brand’s three years of campaigning in the series. This could indicate Audi’s intention to create a Dakar-flavored Q6 E-tron.
Rival for Land Rover Defender and Mercedes-Benz G-Class

The prototype’s unique stretched width suggests that it won’t be based on the same PPE architecture as the Q6. Its proportions bear a strong resemblance to the Activesphere concept that Audi revealed a year ago. Audi designers have previously confirmed that certain design elements from the Activesphere concept would make their way to production vehicles.
