“Feds Investigate Dodge Journey and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Issues”

Federal Safety Regulators Investigate Dodge Journey and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

Overview

Federal safety regulators in the U.S. are currently investigating potential issues in two Stellantis vehicles, impacting up to 293,426 units. The models under scrutiny are the Dodge Journey and the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan.

Dodge Journey Investigation

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated a preliminary evaluation into the 2018-2020 Dodge Journey due to complaints about the back-up camera. Owners have reported various issues such as black screens, upside-down images, flashing, and blurriness, affecting their ability to use the camera effectively.

Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Recall Query

Another action involves a “Recall Query” for the 2017-2023 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. Despite affecting fewer vehicles (67,177 units), this issue has been linked to accidents. The NHTSA is assessing the effectiveness of a previous recall aimed at fixing transmission problems that could lead to power loss and safety risks on the road.

Chrysler’s Recall Remedy

Chrysler’s remedy involved updating the Power Inverter Module and instrument cluster software to warn drivers of transmission issues. However, the warning message provided may not adequately inform drivers of the remaining driving distance, potentially leading to unsafe situations.

Next Steps

The NHTSA will evaluate the frequency of issues among owners of recalled vehicles, the adequacy of the fix, and its safety implications. Depending on the findings, a new recall may be required to address any unresolved safety concerns.
