“Fiat 500 Hybrid: Second Generation Released as Drivers Shift Away from EVs”

Introducing the New Fiat 500 Ibrida: A Hybrid Model for the Future

Fiat is making a strategic move with the introduction of the new Fiat 500 Ibrida, set to hit the market by early 2026. This decision comes as a response to older drivers showing reluctance towards electric cars, according to Fiat’s CEO Olivier François.

The Fiat 500 Ibrida will be built on a modified version of the 500e’s electric vehicle platform, ensuring compliance with the EU’s upcoming safety regulations. This shift secures a long-term future for Fiat’s popular ICE city car, which has seen significant sales success.

François emphasized the importance of meeting consumer expectations and adapting to market realities. Despite the brand’s commitment to electric mobility, slow EV sales prompted the extension of the ICE model’s lifespan. The Fiat 500 Ibrida will be the final ICE model released by Fiat, aligning with the EU’s ban on new ICE cars by 2035.

While Fiat is moving towards electrification, it joins other Stellantis brands in continuing to offer new ICE models. This includes models like the Jeep Avenger and Citroën C4 X, which now also offer petrol options alongside their electric variants.

The future of urban mobility is undoubtedly electric, but Fiat’s decision to introduce the Fiat 500 Ibrida reflects a pragmatic approach to transitioning towards electrification while meeting current market demands.
