Fiat Topolino Revived as Retro Citroen Ami Alternative

Fiat has unveiled the Topolino, a new all-electric quadricycle that takes inspiration from the original Fiat 500. Designed for younger customers, families, and those living in urban areas, the Topolino is named after the iconic city car produced by Fiat from 1936-1955. The new EV is based on the Citroën Ami and marks another step in Fiat’s push towards electrification.

The Topolino is designed to “encapsulate the coolness” of the original Fiat 500 and aims to “make young people fall in love with cars again.” It majors on sustainability while keeping “joy, optimism, and fun” as some of its main production principles. The two-seater is expected to play a role in promoting electric cars for use in cities and among young families in Fiat’s push to provide sustainable transport “suitable for everyone.”

The Topolino is not expected to come to the UK but will be one of the cheapest four-wheeled road vehicles on sale in Europe. Sharing its drivetrain with the Citroën Ami and the Opel Rocks, it will be limited to a top speed of 28mph and have a range of 46 miles.

Fiat CEO Olivier Francois has set a target of an all-electric lineup by 2027, stating that “We’re decisively betting on electric for Europe. We’ll ramp up with electric versions on every new car and at some point make a switch. Fiat should be the people’s Tesla: electric for all.”

The Topolino is designed to appeal to younger customers who are looking for an affordable and sustainable mode of transportation. With its retro styling and compact size, it is perfect for navigating urban environments and is ideal for short trips around town.

The Topolino takes its design cues from the original Fiat 500, with a retractable roof in brown cloth, cream leather upholstery, and open sides reminiscent of the beach-ready Fiat 500 Jolly. The teal blue color available on the Topolino was also available on the Fiat 500 when it launched in 1957.

Fiat hopes that the Topolino will help to promote electric cars for use in cities and among young families. With its low cost and compact size, it is an ideal choice for those who are looking for an affordable and sustainable mode of transportation.

The Topolino is part of Fiat’s push towards electrification, with the company aiming for an all-electric lineup by 2027. The company is betting on electric for Europe and plans to ramp up with electric versions on every new car. Fiat aims to be the people’s Tesla, offering electric cars for all.

In conclusion, the Topolino is an exciting new addition to Fiat’s lineup, offering a sustainable and affordable mode of transportation for younger customers and families. With its retro styling and compact size, it is sure to turn heads and make a statement on the road. As Fiat continues to push towards electrification, the Topolino is a clear indication of the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
