Fisker Confirms High-Performance Version of Pear EV

Fisker Confirms “High-Performance” Variant of Pear Electric Hatchback

American start-up Fisker has announced the development of a “high-performance” variant of its upcoming electric hatchback, the Fisker Pear. The new model, known as the Pear Extreme, is expected to feature a dual-motor, four-wheel drive powertrain that will significantly reduce the 0-60mph sprint time of the regular Pear, which is claimed to be 6.3 seconds. While performance targets for the Pear Extreme have not been confirmed, it is likely to compete with other high-performance electric hatchbacks in the market.

The larger Fisker Ocean Extreme, for example, features a dual-motor powertrain with a combined output of 564bhp and 544lb ft, allowing it to reach 60mph from a standstill in just 4.0 seconds. The Pear Extreme is expected to offer similar performance figures and will likely be positioned as a rival to the MG 4 XPower, which boasts a 429bhp dual-motor powertrain and can hit 60mph in 3.7 seconds.

To support its higher power output, the Pear Extreme is expected to feature a larger battery than the regular Pear, which offers a claimed range of 348 miles. However, the range of the high-performance model will likely be reduced due to its increased power output. Additionally, high-end versions of the Pear will come equipped with a solar-panelled roof, similar to the Fisker Ocean, which will passively top up the battery with additional charge.

The entry-level variant of the Pear will be priced from $29,900 in the US and is expected to be the most popular option. It will feature a smaller battery pack, providing a claimed range of 198 miles. The UK price is likely to be slightly higher due to local taxes and shipping costs.

The Pear’s low entry cost is attributed to its simple design and construction. The electric hatchback is based on a steel chassis that uses 35% fewer parts than a conventional platform. This simplified design not only reduces manufacturing costs but also contributes to the Pear’s sporty handling, according to Henrik Fisker, the founder of Fisker Inc.

Under the hood, the Pear utilizes a dedicated computing architecture called the ‘Blade’, which uses fewer, more centralized computers. This approach reduces the material cost of the vehicle and significantly increases performance. The Pear also features high-speed 5G networking, making it a “cloud-connected mini data center” that offers multi-gigabit networking speeds.

Inside, the Pear boasts a barebones interior with zero moving parts. The instrumentation and infotainment are displayed through a central touchscreen, similar to Tesla models. The interior will be offered in five- and six-seat configurations, with the latter featuring a van-style layout with room for three occupants.

The Pear’s unique features extend to its exterior as well. The rear end of the vehicle features a novel ‘Houdini’ boot, where the tailgate folds away into the rear bumper, simplifying cargo loading in city parking. Additional storage is provided under the bonnet, with optional insulation capable of keeping food hot or cold.

Initial deliveries of the Fisker Pear are scheduled to begin in July 2025, with right-hand drive models expected to be available in the UK by 2026. The car will be showcased at the Fisker Lounge in central Munich during the Munich motor show in September.

The Pear will also play a significant role in Fisker’s ambition to produce a carbon-neutral car by 2027. The start-up aims to release a pared-back variant of the Pear featuring more sustainable materials, aligning with its commitment to environmental sustainability.

In conclusion, Fisker’s announcement of a “high-performance” variant of the Pear electric hatchback, known as the Pear Extreme, showcases the company’s commitment to delivering powerful and sustainable electric vehicles. With its dual-motor, four-wheel drive powertrain and advanced features, the Pear Extreme is set to compete with other high-performance electric hatchbacks in the market. As Fisker continues to innovate and expand its product lineup, the Pear is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle industry.
