“Fisker Ocean Recall: Water Pump Issue Sends Crossover into Limp Mode”

Fisker Ocean Recalled for Faulty Water Pumps

Thousands of Fisker Oceans are being recalled due to faulty water pumps that could trigger limp mode in the crossover vehicle.

What is Limp Mode?

If the water pump fails, the Fisker Ocean can only operate at speeds between 10 and 20 mph, severely limiting its performance.

Recall Information

Fisker, despite facing bankruptcy, is recalling 7,545 Oceans from the 2023 and 2024 model years. These vehicles are equipped with an electric water pump that can malfunction, causing the high voltage battery management system to enter limp mode.

Impact of Limp Mode

Limp mode is activated when there is a communication loss on the vehicle’s Local Interconnect Network 6 bus. This loss of communication, caused by a failed water pump, forces the vehicle into limp mode, restricting battery power to just 8.5 kW and limiting speeds to 10-20 mph.

Safety Concerns

This aggressive limp mode can create hazardous conditions, especially when driving at higher speeds. Fisker acknowledges the potential dangers of sudden speed reductions and the challenges it poses to other drivers on the road.

Resolution and Notifications

Fisker will replace the faulty water pumps with new ones featuring improved conformal coating coverage. Notifications will be sent out to affected owners in August, and the recall also extends to 3,763 Oceans in Canada and Europe.

Despite several incidents of water pump failures, Fisker has not reported any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
