Recall Details

  • Fisker has issued a recall for 7,745 cars due to an issue with regenerative braking.
  • The problem mainly occurs when driving over bumps.
  • The company plans to fix the issue through a software update.

Background

Despite being in bankruptcy proceedings, Fisker continues to address safety concerns by issuing recalls. The latest recall is related to an issue with regenerative braking that dates back to late 2023. The braking system occasionally pauses for 740 milliseconds when encountering bumps, giving the sensation of acceleration instead of braking.

The Fix

Fisker will resolve the issue through a software update. The updated version 2.2 of the software reduces the pause time to just 320 milliseconds, minimizing the inconsistent braking experience. The company is recalling 7,745 cars in the USA and 281 in Canada to implement the fix.

Safety Concerns

The pausing regenerative braking behavior could potentially increase the risk of a crash, especially in situations requiring precise or emergency braking. Fisker acknowledges one injury related to this issue. However, the friction brakes continue to function properly.

Software Update

All Fisker Ocean owners will receive the software update, version 2.2, over the air. Dealers are prohibited from selling unsold units until the update is installed. This over-the-air update is beneficial for owners who may have difficulty finding a dealer to service their vehicles. Owners can check their VIN on the NHTSA website to confirm if their vehicle is included in the recall.
