Florida Firefighters Rescue Driver From Hanging 18-Wheeler on Bridge

Truck Hangs Over Bridge in Palm Beach County Accident

An incident in Palm Beach County, Florida last week left an 18-wheeler truck hanging over the edge of a bridge. Firefighters were called to the scene and successfully rescued the driver who was trapped in the cab, suspended in midair.

Rainy Conditions on the Day of the Crash

While details about the crash are still unknown, reports suggest that heavy rain was a factor on December 23, the day of the accident. From the images captured at the scene, it appears that the truck collided head-on with a concrete barrier.

Fortunately, the impact slowed the truck down enough to prevent it from falling off the overpass and onto the Florida Turnpike. However, most of the cab was left hanging over the bridge, supported by the weight of its trailer, making it impossible for the driver to escape.

Rescue Efforts by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) arrived at the scene and immediately worked to secure the truck and prevent further movement. Using straps and chains, they ensured the safety of both the driver and rescue personnel.

Once the cab was stabilized, two firefighters entered a raised bucket from a fire engine. They harnessed the driver and guided him into the bucket, safely lowering him to the ground.

A Miraculous Outcome for the Driver

The driver, initially scared and hesitant to move, was eventually convinced by PBCFR Captain Duane Hodges to leave the cab. He was taken to a hospital for observation but was released in time to spend Christmas day with his family.

Cautionary Tale for Onlookers

Unfortunately, two other drivers crashed near the accident scene while attempting to film the incident on their cellphones. This serves as a reminder to prioritize road safety and avoid distractions while driving.
