Two DUI Suspects Arrested After Driving Truck Into Lake Michigan

Truck submerged in Lake Michigan

In an attempt to evade police, two DUI suspects took a rather soggy approach by driving their truck into Lake Michigan. However, their plan didn’t go as expected, and they ended up in police custody.

The Chase Begins

The incident took place on Woodmere Avenue in Traverse City, Michigan. Police tried to pull over the driver of a white Ford F-150 pickup truck for erratic driving. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away, initiating a pursuit. The driver disregarded multiple stop signs before eventually coming to a halt.

A Watery Escape

As the driver stopped, they quickly exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Meanwhile, a passenger in the truck took the opportunity to jump into the driver’s seat and drive away. The Traverse City Police Department followed the truck to Clinch Park Marina, where the driver continued down a boat dock and plunged straight into West Grand Traverse Bay.

Apprehension and Charges

Despite their aquatic escape attempt, both drivers, aged 23, were apprehended by the police. They now face charges of fleeing and eluding, as well as operating under the influence. The names of the drivers and any additional passengers in the truck were not disclosed by authorities.

It remains unclear why the two drivers decided to flee from the police in the first place.
