Ford Electrifies Iconic F-150 Truck for European Market

Ford has made a bold move to electrify its most iconic utility vehicle, the F-150. The F-Series has been a popular and well-known truck since the 1940s, with over 40 million units produced to date. However, none have been officially offered for sale in the UK or mainland Europe, until now.

The announcement of the electrified F-150 came nine months before Tesla’s Cybertruck was revealed in 2019. Production began in April 2022 at Ford’s Rouge factory in Dearborn, Michigan. Recently, Ford of Europe announced that the truck will be available in Norway later this year, sparking curiosity about where else it may be sold.

It remains to be seen which models of the Lightning, the electrified F-150, will be offered to European customers and at what price. In the US, the Lightning comes with two battery sizes and all versions are twin-motor, four-wheel drive. The Pro trim uses the smaller battery and has a more functional equipment level, while the XLTs are still equipped for work but the Lariat and Platinum models offer more luxury.

The Standard Range Lightning has 452bhp while the Extended Range version has 581bhp. The transmission is a one-speed reduction gear.

Ford’s decision to electrify the F-150 is part of its push towards electrification. The company made headlines with the electric Mustang Mach-E in 2019 and has continued to make strides in the electric vehicle market.

The electrified F-150 is a significant step for Ford as it is one of its greatest commercial assets. The truck has been a staple in American and Canadian markets for decades and its popularity is expected to continue with the electric version.

The move towards electrification is not only important for Ford but for the automotive industry as a whole. As governments around the world push for cleaner energy and lower emissions, automakers are being forced to adapt. The electrified F-150 is just one example of how companies are responding to the changing landscape.

Ford’s decision to offer the electrified F-150 in Europe is a significant move. The European market has been slower to adopt electric vehicles than other regions, but that is changing. Norway, in particular, has been a leader in electric vehicle adoption and it makes sense for Ford to offer the truck there first.

The electrified F-150 is sure to be a hit in Europe, just as it has been in North America. With its impressive range and power, it is a viable option for those who need a truck for work or play. It is also a step towards a cleaner future and a more sustainable automotive industry.
