Ford Mustang Mach-E Breaks Guinness World Record for Longest Distance Traveled by an Electric Car on a Single Charge

Record breaking Ford Mustang Mach E with driver team and GWR adjudicator

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by an electric car on a single charge. This record-breaking attempt took place on 27 July, organized by a UK-based team sponsored by fleet management provider Webfleet. The team successfully covered a distance of 569 miles and 3379ft in the electric SUV, completing the journey in just over 24 hours.

Surpassing the Previous Record

The previous record was set in September last year by Zeekr’s autonomous division in Hangzhou, China, with a journey of 563.971 miles. The new record set by the Ford Mustang Mach-E has been meticulously documented and verified with video footage, odometer readings, GPS data, and battery-level data from Webfleet. Guinness World Records has officially recognized this achievement as the longest journey by an electric car on a single charge.

The Mustang Mach-E Premium Extended Range

The specific variant of the Ford Mustang chosen for this record-breaking feat was the Mach-E Premium Extended Range. This variant was selected for its efficient single-motor powertrain and large 91kWh battery. Throughout the journey, the Mustang Mach-E averaged an impressive 6.25 miles per kilowatt hour, surpassing its WLTP combined cycle rating of 3.8mpkWh.

Notably, even after the battery reached 0% capacity, the car managed to travel an additional 21 miles.

Key Factors for Success

Webfleet, the sponsor of this record-breaking attempt, highlighted the importance of the car’s smaller 18-inch wheels. These wheels provided enhanced comfort during the lengthy journey and were equipped with Bridgestone’s efficiency-optimized EV tires. The record run took place on public roads in various locations across the UK, including Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Cambridgeshire, to simulate real-world driving conditions.

The Team Behind the Wheel

Behind the wheel for this record-breaking attempt were Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke, who already held various records for fuel economy and EV efficiency runs. They most recently achieved the record for electric vans with a 311-mile run in a Fiat E-Scudo. Webfleet, the sponsor of both records, is a provider of fleet management solutions owned by tire manufacturer Bridgestone. The company is trusted by over 60,000 businesses worldwide to improve the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of their vehicle fleets.

Beverley Wise, Webfleet’s UK and Ireland regional director for Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, expressed her pride in this achievement, stating, “This record is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this endeavor. It represents a significant milestone in the electrification of road transport and demonstrates the potential of electric vehicles when supported by innovative Bridgestone tire design and advanced fleet management technology.”

While this is the verified longest distance traveled by an electric production car, it is worth noting that Mercedes-Benz’s streamlined EQXX concept traveled 747 miles on a single charge from Stuttgart to Silverstone in 2022.
