On Jim Farley’s Instagram account, a mysterious teaser image hints at a new trim for the Mustang. By adjusting the brightness of the photo, it appears that a GT/CS trim could be in the works for next year.

Unveiling Hidden Details

Automakers often use teaser shots to generate excitement, and manipulating the illumination is a common tactic to reveal more information. Even without any adjustments, the GT/CS grille badge is visible, although the nostrils on either side of the grille seem to have a slightly different shape. These subtle changes are typical in teaser shots to keep enthusiasts guessing.

The Return of the California Special

Ford has brought back the California Special trim multiple times in the past, with the 2007-2009 iterations being a favorite among enthusiasts. The unique bodywork, combined with GT/CS cues, received positive feedback. Interestingly, this package reused the front and rear fascias from the Shelby GT-H of that era.

Last year, the California Special package was available as an add-on to the GT Premium trim. It included special badges, suede interior appointments, and a front splitter from the Performance Package. Fastbacks also received the rear spoiler from the Performance Package, while convertibles did not. Notably, selecting both the California Special Package and Performance Package resulted in wider wheels with a distinct style.

Pricing and Expectations

In the past, opting for the California Special added a couple of thousand dollars to the Mustang’s MSRP. Considering inflation and the demand for nostalgic features, it’s likely that the price will be slightly higher this time around.
