Former Ferrari F1 Boss Mattia Binotto to Lead Audi’s F1 Project with Sauber
After being let go by Ferrari at the end of the 2022 season, Mattia Binotto has now been appointed to head up Audi’s F1 project as they prepare for their entry into the grid in 2026 with Sauber.
Changes in Leadership
Binotto takes over from Andreas Seidl, who was removed from his position after just 19 months. Additionally, Oliver Hoffmann, who was in charge of all Sauber companies, has also been dismissed.
Reasons for the Change
Audi cited concerns over the slow progress in preparing the Sauber team for their 2026 entry as the reason for the leadership shakeup.
New Management Approach
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner emphasized the need for clear management structures, defined responsibilities, and efficient decision-making processes to bring the Formula 1 project up to speed.
Binotto’s Role
Binotto will serve as both the chief operating officer (COO) and chief technical officer (CTO) of Sauber Motorsport AG. He will be responsible for the operational management and sporting success of the team as they gear up for their entry into F1 in 2026.
Excitement for the Future
Döllner expressed his excitement about having Binotto on board, highlighting his extensive experience in Formula 1 and the valuable contribution he is expected to make to Audi’s ambitious F1 project.
