Genesis GV60 Magma heading to UK as £100,000 EV

Introducing the Genesis GV60 Magma: A Hot £100,000 Electric Crossover

Genesis is set to launch a high-performance version of its GV60 electric crossover, known as the GV60 Magma, later this year. This track-inspired model, revealed as a concept earlier this year, will be the first car from Genesis’ new Magma performance brand. Priced at around £100,000 in the UK, the GV60 Magma will offer Hyundai Ioniq 5 N performance but with a focus on the “gentleman driver.”

Expected to make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the GV60 Magma will share many components with its Hyundai counterpart, including an 89.0kWh battery and a powerful 641bhp dual-motor powertrain. The Ioniq 5 N, which shares the same platform, boasts a range of 278 miles and can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds.

The GV60 Magma is designed to provide an exciting and engaging driving experience, catering to those who appreciate driving dynamics beyond just sheer speed. According to Genesis’ vehicle development chief, Tyrone Johnson, the focus is on creating a car that offers more power than most owners will ever need, emphasizing driving engagement and software enhancements for a unique driving experience.

While the Magma brand draws inspiration from Hyundai’s N division, it aims to offer a distinct blend of Korean premium and European sportiness. Chief designer Luc Donckerwolke emphasizes that Magma cars prioritize function over style, with subtle design cues like blacked-out logos instead of specific badging.

Following the GV60 Magma, Genesis plans to introduce Magma derivatives for every model in its lineup, with a focus on electric vehicles for the European market. Looking ahead, the Magma brand could expand into its own model lineup, similar to Cupra’s relationship with Seat. Exciting prospects like the X Gran Berlinetta Concept are already being considered for future Magma models.
