Android Auto Gets Real-Time Battery Information

Google has unveiled new updates to Android Auto at CES. One of the notable additions is the ability for electric vehicles (EVs) to share real-time battery information with Google Maps. This feature will allow the navigation system to provide estimated battery levels upon arrival at the destination, suggest charging stops along the way, and estimate charging time based on the vehicle.

Debut in Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning

The real-time battery information feature will first be available in the Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning in the coming months. It will then expand to other vehicles, although specific details have not been announced yet.

New Apps and Features for Vehicles with Google Built-In

Vehicles equipped with Google built-in will receive several new apps and features. The popular Chrome browser is being rolled out as part of a beta test for select Polestar and Volvo models. Additional models will receive the browser later this year. Other new apps include Crunchyroll, PBS Kids, and The Weather Channel app, which was added due to popular demand.

Google built-in will be available in Ford, Lincoln, and Nissan vehicles later this year. Porsche will join them around the middle of the decade. Additionally, Google announced that digital key technology will be rolling out to select Volvo cars soon and will be available for more phone and car brands in the future.
