Honda Prelude Concept Makes a Comeback in America | Giga Gears

Honda Unveils Prelude Concept at Los Angeles Auto Show

After its debut at the Japan Mobility Show, Honda has now introduced the Prelude concept at the highly anticipated Los Angeles Auto Show.

A Nostalgic Return

The surprising move comes 45 years after the first-generation Prelude entered production in November 1978 and approximately 22 years after production ceased in 2001.

Commitment to an Electrified Future

Although Honda has remained tight-lipped about the details of the “hybrid-electric” coupe, they have emphasized that it was designed to showcase their commitment to offering exhilarating products in the electrified future. The automaker describes the Prelude concept as a prelude to future electrified Honda models that aim to advance the joy of driving.

Production-Ready Design

Despite the lack of information, the Prelude concept appears to be virtually production-ready. Honda officials have hinted that a road-going model is expected to be released before the end of the decade. However, they have also indicated that the four-seater coupe may not be the sportiest or most agile car in their lineup.

Other Showcased Models

In addition to the Prelude, Honda also displayed the Motocompacto e-scooter and Prologue EV at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Prologue EV is based on GM’s Ultium platform and is projected to start in the “upper $40,000s” before incentives or tax credits.

Impressive Performance and Range

While full details have not been released, Honda has confirmed that the Prologue EV will be offered with front- and all-wheel drive options. In the all-wheel drive configuration, the model is expected to have a combined output of approximately 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. One variant will also feature an 85 kWh battery pack, providing an EPA range of around 300 miles.
