Honda’s Attempt to Fix Fit and HR-V Rearview Camera Issues Unsuccessful, Will Retry | Giga Gears

Honda Recalls Over 114,000 Vehicles in the U.S. Due to Rearview Camera Issue

Almost 115,000 Honda Fit and Honda HR-V models are part of a new recall announced by the NHTSA. The recall is related to a fault that may prevent the rearview camera image from booting up and being displayed on the dashboard.

Issue with Display Audio Unit

Honda has identified that the impacted Fit and HR-V models were manufactured with an improperly designed power circuit in the display audio unit. This design flaw causes the battery’s state of charge to drop when the engine is started with an ignition key, leading to the rearview camera image not displaying as intended.

Previous Fix Ineffective

Initially, Honda attempted to address the issue through a software update. However, the carmaker found that this solution did not adequately correct the problem with the display audio unit boot-up procedure.

Recall Details

The NHTSA’s notice states that 114,686 vehicles are included in the recall. This includes Fits built between June 12, 2017, and November 30, 2020, as well as HR-Vs manufactured from July 7, 2018, to April 25, 2022. While Honda received 92 warranty claims related to the issue, there have been no reports of injuries or deaths associated with this defect.

Next Steps

Dealers were informed of the recall on May 31, and owners will receive notifications starting July 8. Honda has instructed dealers to reprogram the display audio unit with updated software in an effort to resolve the rearview camera problem.
