Honda’s Retro SCL500 Scrambler Refreshes American Motorcycle Lineup

Honda Revives Classic Design with SCL500 Motorcycle and Updates to Lineup

Honda is bringing back the classic scrambler-style motorcycle with the announcement of the SCL500, set to be offered to American customers this summer. Inspired by Honda’s classic CL72 and CL77 motorcycles, the SCL500 offers stripped-down, go-anywhere utility with a high-routed exhaust, block tires, plenty of suspension travel, and a retro design aesthetic. The bike is powered by Honda’s 500cc parallel-twin engine, which is small, nimble, and a great entry-point for customers. The starting price of $6,799 makes it an affordable option, and Honda is offering a range of accessories to entice buyers to spend more. The SCL500 will be available in Candy Orange and Mattel Laurel Green Metallic.

Honda’s Manager of Sports & Experiential, Brandon Wilson, said, “More than any manufacturer, Honda has consistently demonstrated an ability to deliver fun, retro motorcycles that scratch a nostalgic itch while offering the performance and reliability for which Honda is so well known. That’s the case with the all-new SCL500, and we’re confident it will be a hit with American customers.”

Updates to Honda’s Motorcycle Lineup

In addition to the SCL500, Honda has made updates to its motorcycle lineup. The 2024 Shadow Phantom now features a two-tone gas tank, new handlebars, handlebar clamps, headlight cover, air cleaner cover, display instruments, turn signal, and machine-cut cylinder-head fins. These changes were made to further enhance the bike’s “bobber” styling. The Shadow Phantom also comes with a new single seat for long rides and a passenger seat with foot pegs as an extra. The ABS version of the bike comes with a rear disc brake for added safety. Prices start at $8,399 for the standard model and $8,699 for the ABS model.

The 2024 Shadow Aero also received an update with a new standard disc brake, which was previously only available on the ABS model. The bike will also be offered with updated color options for the coming model year. Prices start at $7,949, while ABS adds $300 to the price tag. Both the Shadow Phantom and Shadow Aero will be available as of June.

Honda’s smaller offerings also received updates. The ADV160 scooter replaces the ADV150 and features a larger displacement engine that delivers better performance on the road and in terms of emissions. The scooter comes with an automatic transmission, two-stage adjustable windscreen, and under seat storage to make it as capable as possible. Prices start at $4,499, and it will be available to purchase as of July.

The Honda Grom and PCX are returning to dealers with no major updates. Prices for the former start at $3,599, and $4,149 for the latter.

Conclusion

Honda’s revival of the classic scrambler-style motorcycle with the SCL500 is sure to appeal to customers looking for a retro design with modern updates. The brand’s updates to its motorcycle lineup offer enhanced styling and safety features, making them even more appealing to riders. With a range of options available at different price points, Honda is sure to have something for everyone in their motorcycle lineup.
