Hyundai Blames Tiny Blob for Engine Issues in 2024 Models

Hyundai Recalls Thousands of Vehicles Due to Engine Issue

Hyundai is recalling a total of 13,511 vehicles from the 2024 model year in the United States. The affected models include 7,349 Elantras, 2,364 Venues, and 3,798 Konas. The reason for the recall is a faulty exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve sensor that could cause the engine to stall.

Issue with EGR Valve Sensor

The problem stems from a bad EGR valve sensor that may short out, leading to engine stalling. This issue was brought to Hyundai’s attention after reports from customers experiencing unexpected engine shutdowns. The contamination of the sensor with solder flux during the manufacturing process is believed to be the cause of the problem.

Potential Safety Risk

If the EGR valve malfunctions due to the shorted sensor, it could result in a sudden loss of power while driving, posing a safety risk to the drivers. However, Hyundai has not received any reports of crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue.

Free Replacement for Affected Vehicles

Hyundai will begin contacting owners of the affected vehicles on June 28 to schedule a free replacement of the EGR valve assembly at authorized dealerships. The automaker is taking proactive measures to address the issue and ensure the safety of its customers.
