Hyundai Achieves Record August Sales in the US

Hyundai Motor America Sets New Sales Record

  • Hyundai Motor America had its best August on record as the company sold 79,278 vehicles last month.
  • The automaker has sold 548,003 vehicles in the past eight months, which is up 4% from a year ago.
  • Sonata sales soared 75%, but the Ioniq 6 is struggling.

Hyundai has a lot to celebrate as they achieved record August sales in the United States. The automaker sold 79,278
vehicles last month, which was a 22% increase from a year ago.

Hybrids were the big winner as retail sales jumped an impressive 81%. This was aided by strong demand for the
Tucson Hybrid, which was up 113%. The Santa Fe Hybrid
also saw strong demand as overall sales – including fleet – were up 120%.

Retail EV sales climbed 27% with the Ioniq 5 jumping 74%. However, the overall picture was cloudier as the Ioniq 5
was only up 35% and Ioniq 6 sales plummeted 51%. The
numbers for the latter are downright bleak as the company only sold 808 units last month. On the bright side,
that’s 800 units more than the Nexo FCEV, which generated a mere 8 sales.

Strong Car Sales for Hyundai

Car sales were surprisingly strong as the Elantra was up 28%, while the Sonata soared 75%. The Sonata’s strong
showing could continue in the future as Hyundai recently announced the
2025
model will offer an entry-level SE trim
that lowers the price to $26,650. That’s $850 less than its
predecessor, but a number of features have been cut to lower the price of entry.

While the Sonata generated 5,953 sales last month, the
big winners were the Tucson (20,864), Elantra (14,379), and Palisade (11,208). The three-row crossover was up 84%
compared to last year and that’s impressive considering a redesigned model is on the horizon.
