Hyundai Confirms Production of N Vision 74

Hyundai N Vision 74

Introduction

After years of speculation and conflicting reports, Hyundai has quietly confirmed that the N Vision 74 will reach production. This announcement was made during the automaker’s recent 2024 CEO Investor Day, where Hyundai outlined its future plans for electric vehicles.

Hyundai’s Future Plans

According to a slide from the presentation, Hyundai plans to launch 21 new electric vehicles by 2030. Among these models is the N Vision 74, described as a “high-performance EV.” While no specific launch date has been confirmed, Hyundai assures that the N Vision 74 will be available before 2030.

Speculations and Details

The N Vision 74 concept, which was unveiled in mid-2022, featured a 62.4 kWh battery pack and a hydrogen fuel tank powering electric motors with a combined output of 670 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. However, it is unclear if the production model will retain the same powertrain as the concept. The slide does not mention the use of hydrogen fuel tanks in any of Hyundai’s future EVs, suggesting that the production model could be all-electric.

Albert Biermann’s Stance

Interestingly, Hyundai’s executive technical advisor and mastermind of the N brand, Albert Biermann, initially rejected the idea of producing the N Vision 74. In an interview with CarScoops in February, Biermann stated that the N brand’s focus is on creating affordable and track day capable cars for enthusiasts, rather than “show cars.” It seems that Hyundai has gone against Biermann’s wishes in approving the N Vision 74 for production.

Pricing and Availability

Reports suggest that Hyundai plans to build 200 road-going examples of the N Vision 74, with each unit potentially costing over $300,000. The production model will serve as a halo vehicle for the brand, similar to how the LFA pushed Toyota and Lexus to new heights. However, specific details about pricing and availability have not been disclosed.

Conclusion

With the confirmation of the N Vision 74’s production, Hyundai aims to provide customers with a wide range of options for mass-market to luxury/high-performance EVs. As Hyundai continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup, the N Vision 74 represents an exciting addition to the brand’s portfolio.
