Hyundai Recalls Tucson and Santa Cruz for Steering Issue

Hyundai Recalls 2024 Tucson and Santa Cruz Models for Power Steering Issue

Recall Details

Hyundai is recalling 795 trucks and crossovers in the United States due to a potential loss of power steering assist. The affected models include the 2024 Tucson and 2024 Santa Cruz.

Issue Identified

The Safety Recall Report indicates that the power steering system in these models may have a printed circuit board assembled with contaminated flux. This contamination could lead to a short circuit, resulting in a malfunction of the power steering system and potential loss of power steering assist while driving.

Safety Concern

A sudden loss of power steering assist during vehicle operation increases the risk of a crash, according to government safety standards.

Remedy

Hyundai will replace the electric power pack of the power steering system in the impacted models at no cost to owners. Notifications will be sent out in August, with the recall primarily affecting the Santa Cruz model, with 679 units included.

Investigation and Response

Hyundai identified five malfunctioning vehicles in May, leading to an investigation that resulted in the recall. Two additional incidents were reported in consumer-sold vehicles, but no injuries or crashes have been linked to the issue.
