Hyundai to Expand Production to Include Hybrid Vehicles at Georgia Factory

Hyundai is making significant investments in its battery-electric vehicle factory in Georgia, with plans to produce hybrid vehicles at the site as well. This move comes as the carmaker sees a growing interest in hybrid vehicles and aims to cater to this demand without requiring additional investments.

### Hyundai and Kia’s Hybrid Offerings in the U.S.

Hyundai and its sister brand Kia already offer a range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid models in the U.S., including popular models like the Tucson, Santa Fe, Elantra, Sonata, Niro, Sportage, and Sorento. While Genesis currently does not have any hybrids in its lineup, the G80 and GV70 are expected to receive hybrid options soon.

### Production Plans and Market Competitiveness

The Georgia factory is set to begin production of battery-electric vehicles in the second half of this year. Hyundai’s global chief operating officer, Jose Munoz, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to support hybrid production within the current investment framework. He also highlighted the importance of qualifying for U.S. EV tax credits to enhance competitiveness in the market.

### Future Outlook

As the global sales of Hyundai’s hybrid vehicles saw a 17% increase in the first quarter of this year, the company remains optimistic about its future prospects. Munoz emphasized the need to diversify the product lineup beyond electric vehicles and hinted at plans to introduce new hybrid models at the Georgia factory.

By expanding its production capabilities to include hybrid vehicles, Hyundai aims to meet the evolving needs of consumers and strengthen its position in the competitive automotive market. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, the company is poised to make a significant impact in the realm of electrified transportation.
