Audi RS3: The Final Edition of the Iconic Five-Cylinder Engine

Audi RS3 dynamic hero

Introduction

Audi’s renowned five-cylinder engine will bid farewell with the upcoming release of the updated RS3. After 48 years in production, this engine has become an iconic part of Audi’s history. The 2.5 TFSI engine, which also powers the RS Q3, will maintain its impressive 394bhp output in the new RS3. The upgraded RS3, set to launch next month, follows the recent refresh of the A3.

Exterior Upgrades

The updated RS3 will be available in Sportback and Saloon bodystyles. It features a new front splitter, redesigned side air intakes, and carbon detailing. The front and rear LED signatures have also been refreshed with a chequered design. These enhancements give the RS3 a more sporty and aggressive appearance compared to its predecessor.

Interior Enhancements

Inside the RS3, you’ll find new RS bucket seats upholstered in Nappa leather. The flat-top, flat-bottom steering wheel has been updated with haptic buttons, replacing physical controls. The air vents have been redesigned, and the automatic gearbox now has a smaller gear selector. However, the physical climate controls remain unchanged.

Improved Performance

Audi has upgraded the RS3’s chassis controls, resulting in improved cornering stability and agility. The tuning of key components, including the brake torque vectoring, reduces understeer when entering corners and allows for more power throughout bends. For those seeking even more grip on the track, Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slicks can be added as an option.

Unchanged Performance and Pricing

The Audi RS3 maintains its impressive performance, with a 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds. Power is delivered to all four wheels through the same seven-speed double-clutch transmission. The UK prices for the RS3 start at £59,510 for the Sportback and £60,510 for the Saloon. Three trim levels are available, with the top trim, Carbon Vorsprung, increasing the top speed from 155mph to 174mph. Deliveries will begin next month.

Audi RS3: A Popular Choice

Since its launch in 2011, the RS3 has become Audi’s most popular Audi Sport model, with over 80,000 units sold. Such was the demand for this model that it was temporarily taken off the market last year due to supply constraints.

With its updated design, enhanced performance, and the iconic five-cylinder engine, the Audi RS3 is set to make a lasting impression as it bids farewell to the automotive world.
