Infiniti recalls 7,222 cars for faulty driveshafts

Infiniti Recalls 7,222 Cars for Defective Driveshafts

Infiniti has issued a recall for 7,222 vehicles due to driveshafts that can fatigue and break, posing a risk of immobilizing the vehicle or causing it to roll away. The recall affects six different models spanning from 2011 to 2019.

Models Affected by the Recall

  • M56 (2011-2013)
  • M35 Hybrid (2012-2013)
  • Q50 (2014-2018)
  • Q70 and Q70 Hybrid (2014-2018)
  • Q70L (2015-2019)

It’s important to note that only rear-wheel drive vehicles are impacted by this issue, so if your Infiniti has all-wheel drive, you’re not affected.

Cause of the Problem

Infiniti has attributed the driveshaft issue to a “supplier specification change” resulting in reduced fatigue strength. A broken driveshaft can prevent the engine from powering the rear wheels and may cause the vehicle to roll away if parked without the parking brake engaged.

Repair Process

Owners are required to bring their vehicles in for repair, which should take approximately one hour. Infiniti will cover all parts and labor costs associated with the driveshaft replacement. Owners will be notified of the recall by August 12, and dealers are already informed about the issue. To check if your vehicle is affected, contact your dealer or search your VIN on NHTSA.gov.
