Jaguar to Discontinue Five Low-Profit Models in 2021, F-Pace Spared temporarily

Jaguar Streamlines Lineup: F-Pace SUV to Remain Sole Model

As part of a strategic move, Jaguar is discontinuing five models this year, leaving only the F-Pace SUV in its lineup. This decision comes as the brand aims to enhance profitability and focus on a new generation of all-electric vehicles.

CEO’s Statement

Jaguar Land Rover’s CEO highlighted that models like the XE, XF sedan and wagon, F-Type sports car, and I-Pace EV were delivering minimal profitability. This shift in focus will pave the way for the introduction of a fresh lineup of all-electric cars starting next year.

Reduced Range, Improved Margins

By reducing its range from six vehicles to just one, Jaguar anticipates an improvement in profit margins. The F-Pace SUV, known for its higher retail prices, accounted for a significant portion of Jaguar’s sales in the previous quarter.

New Electric Vehicles on the Horizon

Jaguar plans to launch three new electric vehicles based on the Jaguar Electrified Architecture (JEA) in 2025. To kickstart this transition, a concept car will be unveiled in the US later this year.

Brand Evolution

This strategic shift marks the end of Jaguar’s attempt to compete with high-volume premium brands like BMW. Despite producing well-received models like the XF, Jaguar struggled to match its German counterparts in sales.

Implications for Suppliers

The decision to discontinue models like the E-Pace and I-Pace also impacts suppliers like Magna Steyr, who were involved in manufacturing these vehicles. The move comes at a challenging time for suppliers like Magna Steyr, who also faced setbacks due to the closure of other projects.
