Jaguar’s EV Concept in December, Followed by One-Year Pause in New Car Sales

Jaguar Sticks with Plan to Go All-Electric, Scraps Existing Line-Up

Introduction

Jaguar remains committed to its plan to transition to all-electric vehicles (EVs) starting next year, despite the current unstable demand for EVs. The British brand is just a few months away from completely scrapping its existing line-up and unveiling a crucial concept car that will set the tone for its new era.

New Generation of Models

Jaguar’s next-generation models will be completely different from its previous cars in terms of visual design, technology, and positioning. The brand has described them as a “copy of nothing,” indicating a departure from traditional design cues.

Upcoming Concept Car

In December, Jaguar will reveal a radical new concept car that will closely preview its first new-era EV. This four-door GT will have a price tag of £100k, a range of over 435 miles, ultra-rapid charging capabilities, and a dual-motor powertrain with more than 575bhp.

New-Era Design Language

The new concept car will not only showcase the debut GT but also establish the new-era design language that will define upcoming models such as the Bentley Bentayga-rivalling SUV and the Flying Spur-sized limousine. These models are expected to arrive in dealerships by 2028.

Rethinking EV Design

Jaguar’s priority when designing these new cars was to challenge the conventional principles of EV design. The brand aims to create cars that stand out in a sector dominated by similar-looking vehicles that prioritize aerodynamics for range purposes.

Distinctive Design Features

While specific details have not been revealed, reports suggest that the new Jaguar models will feature long, probing bonnets, minimalist front ends with a distinctive new grille motif, and slim LED lights. It is also rumored that the cars will have no rear windows, similar to the Polestar 4.

Preserving Brand Identity

Jaguar’s iconic leaping cat emblem will undergo a slight evolution to maintain its importance in the luxury space. The brand will also incorporate historic names into the naming strategy of its new cars, striking a balance between acknowledging the past and embracing forward-thinking elements.

Market Focus

Jaguar plans to unveil the GT in the US, highlighting the market’s significance for the brand. However, the brand remains committed to its British heritage and recognizes the importance of the UK market.

Industry Trends

While some competitors have adjusted their electrification strategies due to flatlining demand for premium EVs, Jaguar believes its brand repositioning, technical priorities, and new-era design cues will strengthen its appeal in the market.

Transition Period

Before entering its new era, Jaguar has ceased production of the XE, XF, and F-Type models. Production of the E-Pace and I-Pace will also come to an end, leaving only the F-Pace in production until 2025. Jaguar will no longer be on sale for new vehicles in certain European markets by the end of this year, with the UK to follow in early next year. UK deliveries of the new electric GT are expected to begin in 2026.

During this transition period, Jaguar retailers will focus on used cars and aftersales services, as there will be a period where new Jaguars will not be available for purchase.
