Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee Defrost System Issues

Jeep Recalls Wrangler and Grand Cherokee Models Due to Defrost System Issue

Jeep has issued a recall for select Wrangler and Grand Cherokee models in the United States due to a faulty defrosting system that may cause fogging on windshields. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified an issue with the hybrid control processor software, which can disable the windshield defrost system under certain conditions.

Impacted Vehicles

A total of 199,143 vehicles are affected by this recall. This includes 139,318 Jeep Wranglers from the 2021-2024 model years and 59,825 Grand Cherokees from the 2022-2024 model years. The impacted vehicles were assembled between specific dates outlined in the recall notice.

Recall Process

Jeep was made aware of the defrost system issue in June of last year and has since analyzed affected vehicles to determine which ones require a software update. The voluntary safety recall will begin on April 5, with both dealers and owners being notified. The fix involves updating the software of the hybrid control processor, which will be done free of charge.

Previous Recalls

This is not the first recall issued for Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee models in recent months. In November of last year, plug-in Wrangler 4xe models were recalled due to a fire risk, while in August, a separate recall was issued for various Jeep models, including Grand Cherokees, for issues with the reversing camera display.
