Slowest Police Chase in History Ends with Arrest in Lemay, Missouri

Authorities in Lemay, Missouri have apprehended a 30-year-old driver after what can only be described as the slowest police chase in history. The incident unfolded like a scene from a comedy movie.

Details of the Chase

While specific details about the cause of the chase are limited, police managed to halt the progress of the Kia Optima by deploying spike strips. Although the spikes blew out all four tires of the Kia, the driver refused to pull over and continued driving at an extremely slow pace.

A Comical Pursuit

A video captured by Chris Goetz, a manager at Phil’s Tire Shop, shows the Optima being pursued by an undercover Dodge Charger police cruiser, a Ford Mondeo, a Chevy sedan, and even a Ford Explorer police car. The vehicles were barely moving, traveling at speeds of no more than 2 or 3 mph. At one point, one of the police officers even waved to bystanders on the side of the road. The video also revealed that a woman was accompanying the Kia driver in the passenger seat.

End of the Chase

Chris Goetz initially mistook the convoy for a funeral procession. However, after the fleeing Optima passed the tire shop, it circled the block and passed by again. The authorities eventually decided to terminate the chase and apprehended the driver approximately six miles from the tire shop. While the 30-year-old driver is now in custody, the charges against him have not been disclosed.
