Kia Stinger and K900 Recalled for Turbo Oil Pipe Fire Risk

Kia Recalls Stinger and K900 Models Over Turbo Oil Pipe Concerns

Overview

Kia has issued a recall for 36,248 Stinger and K900 vehicles in the United States due to potential safety hazards related to the oil feed pipe connected to the turbocharger. The issue could lead to oil leakage onto hot surfaces, posing a fire risk.

Affected Models

The recall affects 2019-2020 Kia K900s and 2018-2022 Stingers equipped with the 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine. The problem was first identified in June after a driver in Korea reported smoke coming from the engine compartment. Subsequently, a 2018 Stinger in North America caught fire while being driven in December 2023.

Safety Concerns

While no injuries or accidents have been reported as a result of this issue, Kia is aware of 25 incidents related to the oil feed pipe problem. Owners are advised to watch out for signs such as white smoke, a burning smell, or oil leaks from the engine compartment, along with an oil pressure warning light.

Remedy

Kia will begin notifying affected owners on April 26 and will replace the left-hand turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly with a more heat-resistant material to address the issue.

Conclusion

Owners of the affected Stinger and K900 models should stay vigilant for any signs of the oil feed pipe problem and follow Kia’s instructions for the recall campaign to ensure their safety and prevent any potential fire hazards.
