Land Rover Revives Classic Defender V8 with Modern Upgrades
Introduction
Land Rover has unveiled an official restomod for the classic Defender, transforming the iconic 4×4 into a formidable competitor to the Mercedes G-Class. Produced by Land Rover Classic, this revamped Defender offers modernized features and enhancements to its chassis, interior, and exterior.
Power and Performance
The Defender by Works Bespoke is equipped with JLR’s renowned naturally aspirated 5.0-litre ‘AJ’ V8 engine, delivering an impressive 405bhp and 380lb ft of torque. Power is transmitted through an eight-speed ZF gearbox. To enhance its handling capabilities, the Defender is fitted with Bilstein dampers, Eibach springs, anti-roll bars, and four-pot Alcon brakes for improved stopping power.
Interior Upgrades
The reworked Defender features reupholstered seats, door cards, roof lining, and dashboard, available in five different leather options. Two seat designs are offered, one focusing on comfort and the other, supplied by Recaro, providing thicker bolsters and a sportier appearance. The radio is replaced with a new deck featuring a 3.5-inch touchscreen, offering sat-nav, DAB radio, and Bluetooth connectivity while maintaining the original aesthetic.
Exterior Enhancements
The exterior modifications include brighter LED headlights and a choice of 16-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels. Land Rover also offers various accessories such as side steps, a ladder, and LED spotlights. Additionally, buyers have the option to customize their Defender’s paint color to match their preferences.
Pricing
The Defender V8 by Works Bespoke is available in three models: the four-seat 90 starting at £190,000 (excluding VAT), the five-seat 110 priced from £199,000 (excluding VAT), and the seven-seater priced at £204,000 (excluding VAT). Each model is based on a Defender produced between 2012 and 2016, sourced directly by Land Rover.
