Land Rover Recalls Defenders from TReK Off-Road Competition Due to Brake Issues

Land Rover Defender Recall: Brake Caliper Issue

Land Rover Defender

Introduction

The Land Rover Defender is renowned for its ruggedness and off-road capabilities. However, even this iconic vehicle is not immune to issues. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently issued a recall, although it only affects a specific batch of Land Rover Defender 130 models.

Recall Details

The recall specifically pertains to 121 Land Rover Defender 130 vehicles that were modified by Jaguar Land Rover North America for the TReK off-road competition. These vehicles were used in the recent competition held in Texas and were given identical modifications.

Brake Caliper Concerns

The recall notice states that Jaguar Land Rover North America failed to reinstall the brake calipers according to the published repair procedure. This oversight poses a risk of caliper detachment, which can lead to reduced braking performance, potential structural damage to the wheel, and an increased risk of accidents. It’s important to note that no crashes or accidents have been reported so far.

Remedy

Jaguar Land Rover will rectify the issue by removing the brake calipers on the affected vehicles and reinstalling them correctly. This repair will be performed free of charge for the owners.
