Lego has partnered with McLaren to develop a fully drivable 1:1 scale model of the iconic P1 hypercar. This life-size replica recently completed a lap at the Silverstone circuit with Formula 1 driver Lando Norris behind the wheel.

Impressive Construction

The Lego P1 is constructed using over 342,000 Lego Technic elements, weighing a total of 1220kg. This collaboration between Lego and McLaren marks the first drivable Lego big-build model ever created.

Since 2015, Lego has collaborated with McLaren on various projects, including the creation of Technic models such as the Senna GTR and the 2022 MCL36 F1 racer. They also developed a 1:8 scale Technic version of the P1, featuring a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, suspension, V8 piston engine, and dihedral doors.

Power and Performance

The 1:1 Lego P1 replica is powered by Technic batteries and an electric car battery. It is equipped with eight motor packs, each consisting of 96 Lego Power function motors, totaling 768 Lego motors. Lego claims that the P1 can reach speeds of up to 40mph.

Collaborative Effort

A team of 23 Lego and McLaren engineers worked together to build the P1, dedicating over 8300 hours to its development. The model required 393 types of Technic elements, with 11 bespoke parts specifically made for the car.

During the testing phase, F1 driver Lando Norris took the Lego P1 for a spin at Silverstone to assess its durability and performance.

A World Tour

The Lego P1 will now embark on a world tour, making appearances at various sporting events to showcase its impressive design and engineering.

Overall, the collaboration between Lego and McLaren has resulted in an extraordinary achievement, creating a fully drivable replica of the P1 hypercar using Lego Technic elements.
