Lexus RZ 2023: Long-Term Test

Lexus RZ 2023 Long-Term Test: Month 1 Review

Introduction

The Lexus RZ, an upmarket electric family SUV, has arrived with plenty to prove. With a price tag of over £70,000, it aims to showcase Lexus’s famed attention to detail and luxury. In this long-term test, we will explore whether the RZ can overcome its modest range and establish its place in the world of lavish EVs.

Welcoming the Lexus RZ to the Fleet

Receiving the keys to a £70,000-plus car during a cost of living crisis and impending recession was a surprise. The plush Lexus RZ will be in my possession for the next few months, possibly in the hope that I’ll become an advocate for high-end cruising. As Lexus’s first bespoke EV, the RZ has a lot to prove, especially considering its range of 251 miles.

A Comfy and Plush Ride

Despite its range limitations, the Lexus RZ impresses with its comfort and plushness. The Takumi trim of our model offers a luxurious experience, with features like in-seat fans and reclining rear seats. The interior is designed to be as nice as, if not nicer than, your lounge. The large 14.0-inch infotainment screen adds to the overall experience.

Driving Experience

For a 4.8m-long family SUV, the Lexus RZ drives well and handles surprisingly well too. With four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering, it offers confidence and control on the road. However, there are some caveats. The safety features, while beneficial, can be overly sensitive and aggressive in their alerts. Additionally, the range falls short of expectations, with only 180 miles achieved from a fully charged battery.

An Interesting Test

The Lexus RZ, as Lexus’s new flagship, has a lot to prove. With a price tag of £74,000, it needs to deliver on its promises. The long-term test will reveal whether the RZ can overcome its range limitations and establish itself as a worthy contender in the luxury EV market.

Conclusion

The Lexus RZ is a luxurious and comfortable electric SUV that showcases Lexus’s attention to detail. While it may fall short in terms of range and overly sensitive safety features, it offers a plush and enjoyable driving experience. As the long-term test continues, we will see if the RZ can live up to its status as Lexus’s flagship EV.
