Lotus and Alpine Team Up for Electric Sports Car Program

Alpine and Lotus have reportedly halted their joint development program for a successor to the A110 sports coupe. The two companies had previously announced plans to collaborate on a lightweight electric sports car, which was intended to replace the A110 and potentially serve as a spiritual successor to some of Lotus’ smaller coupes. However, Lotus has confirmed that the project has been scrapped, stating that the decision was reached amicably. Despite this setback, both companies remain committed to electric vehicles and may collaborate on future models. Renault, which owns Alpine, is reportedly considering using its own technology to develop future Alpine models rather than working with Lotus. Meanwhile, Lotus is seeking partners to scale its premium electric platform used for the Eletre SUV and an upcoming performance sedan. Alpine is focusing on delivering a hardcore version of the Renault 5 small EV in 2024, followed by a sporty compact SUV. The brand also aims to break into the North American market in the coming years.
