“Lucid Recalls 5,000+ EVs for Power Loss While Driving”

Lucid Recalls Over 5,000 EVs For Loss Of Power While Driving

Overview

Lucid Motors is recalling 5,251 Air EVs from the 2022 and 2023 model years due to a potential loss of power while the vehicle is in motion. This safety concern has led to at least ten reported incidents, prompting the automaker to issue an over-the-air update to address the issue.

Safety Mechanism

The safety recall report highlights that the Lucid Air utilizes a High Voltage Interlock safety mechanism to safeguard against high voltage exposure during various vehicle operations. However, a software logic flaw has caused this mechanism to activate while the vehicle is in motion, posing a risk of power loss and potential accidents.

Incidents and Solutions

Lucid has observed ten instances of unexpected power loss while driving, prompting the recall. To rectify this issue, the company has developed a new software logic that prevents the High Voltage Interlock from engaging while the vehicle is in drive or reverse. An over-the-air update has been rolled out since June 24 to address this concern.

Next Steps

Owners of the affected Lucid Air EVs will receive notifications via email and mail with instructions on how to update their vehicle’s software. It is crucial for all owners to install this update promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicles.
