Mahindra Teases Scorpio N-Based Pickup Concept, Set to Debut Aug 15

Mahindra to Unveil Vision of Global Pik Up Truck in South Africa

Mahindra, the Indian automaker, is set to reveal its vision for a “Global Pik Up” truck on August 15 in Cape Town, South Africa. The concept truck, codenamed Z121, is expected to be based on the Scorpio N platform and will likely result in a production model. This move comes as Mahindra aims to capitalize on the sales success of its ladder-frame SUV.

The Z121 concept is anticipated to share the underpinnings with the Mahindra Scorpio N, but with a longer wheelbase. This extended footprint will allow for a larger rear bed, which will be occupied by full-size spare wheels fitted with grippy all-terrain rubber. The teaser image released by Mahindra showcases the truck’s grille featuring the new Mahindra emblem, side steps, and a portion of the LED taillights. A short video clip shows the truck driving away in the desert, bearing a resemblance to the VW Amarok. It remains unclear whether the concept will share the front portion of the bodywork with the Scorpio N or if Mahindra will opt for a distinct look.

According to Autocar India, the production version of the Z121 concept is expected to hit the market in early 2025 in various countries, including South Africa, India, and Australia. It will serve as the successor to the old Scorpio Classic/Getaway trims. Mahindra is likely to offer the truck in single-cab, double-cab, and cab-chassis variants to cater to a wide range of customer needs.

In terms of powertrain options, it is expected that Mahindra will carry over the engines from the Scorpio N SUV. This includes the 2.0-liter TGDi mStallion petrol engine producing 197 horsepower (149 kW / 200 PS) and the 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine delivering 173 horsepower (129 kW / 175 PS). Both engines can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The truck will come with standard rear-wheel-drive and optional all-wheel-drive.

The unveiling of the Global Pik Up concept marks Mahindra’s ambition to expand its presence in the global pickup truck market. With its rugged design, capable off-road performance, and versatile configurations, the truck aims to attract customers who require a reliable and practical vehicle for both work and leisure activities.

Mahindra has a strong reputation for producing durable and dependable vehicles, especially in the utility segment. The Scorpio N platform has already proven its success, and the Global Pik Up truck is expected to build on that foundation. By offering a larger rear bed and accommodating full-size spare wheels, Mahindra is addressing the practical needs of pickup truck owners who often require extra cargo space and off-road capability.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, pickup trucks remain in high demand worldwide. Mahindra’s entry into the global pickup truck market with the Global Pik Up concept demonstrates the company’s commitment to meeting the needs of customers around the world. With its upcoming unveiling in South Africa, Mahindra aims to make a strong impression and generate excitement among potential buyers.

In conclusion, Mahindra’s vision of a Global Pik Up truck is set to make its debut in South Africa. Based on the Scorpio N platform, this concept truck promises to offer rugged performance, versatility, and practicality. With its larger rear bed and all-terrain capabilities, it aims to cater to a wide range of customers’ needs. As Mahindra expands its presence in the global pickup truck market, the unveiling of the Global Pik Up concept marks an important milestone for the company.
