Axe-Wielding Vandal Causes $65,000 Worth of Damage at Australian Car Dealerships
Unusual Vandalism Incident Shocks Melbourne Suburb
An unidentified man armed with an axe recently went on a rampage, causing extensive damage to around 20 vehicles at three different car dealerships in Glen Waverley, a southeastern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, November 2, resulted in an estimated AU$100,000 worth of damage.
Vandal Targets Mazda, BMW, and Toyota Dealerships
The suspect began his destructive spree at a Mazda dealership on Springvale Road. He then moved on to a BMW dealer, damaging several vehicles including a white i8 sportscar, a brand-new X1, and at least two X3 SUVs. The vandal concluded his rampage by damaging a few trucks at a nearby Toyota dealership.
Motive Remains Unknown
It is unclear why the man specifically targeted these particular dealerships and ignored others nearby. Employees at the affected dealerships expressed confusion over the motive behind the vandalism.
Police Seek Public Assistance in Identifying the Suspect
CCTV footage captured the suspect driving an old Toyota Avalon, but he fled the scene on foot according to the police report. The man is described as approximately 175 cm (5.74 feet) tall with black curly hair. He was seen wearing a tan hoodie, matching pants, and slide shoes. The Victoria Police and the Monash Crime Investigation Unit are urging anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward and assist in identifying the suspect.
