Maybach, the renowned ultra-luxury brand, has unveiled its latest creation: the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. This exquisite sports convertible is set to rival the Bentley Continental GTC and Ferrari Roma Spider, making it the “sportiest model in the Maybach brand’s history”. The unveiling took place at Monterey Car Week in California, showcasing Maybach’s expertise in creating exclusive reworkings of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Luxury and Style
The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series stands out with its unique two-tone liveries, available in black over red or white. However, customers can also request other colors to suit their preferences. The signature Maybach grille, adorned with illuminated slats, replaces the standard SL grille. A chrome fin runs the length of the bonnet, and customers can opt for the ‘Maybach pattern’ hand-applied in contrasting grey paint on the bonnet. Rose-gold detailing adorns the headlights, while chrome accents enhance the side sills and front splitter, emphasizing the vehicle’s width. The 21-inch wheels offer a choice between a five-hole ‘monoblock’ design or an intricate multi-spoke design.
Exquisite Interior
Step inside the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, and you’ll be greeted by a luxurious crystal-white nappa leather interior. Chrome trim elements add a touch of elegance, while the seats feature a bespoke floral pattern. The infotainment system’s touchscreen has been reprogrammed with Maybach-specific graphics and animations, enhancing the overall experience.
Uncompromising Performance
Under the hood, the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series boasts a powerful twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, delivering 577bhp. However, Maybach has remapped the accelerator to provide the “supremely dynamic driving pleasure expected of a Maybach.” The vehicle’s refinement is further enhanced by a “noise-optimized” custom exhaust and an extensive insulation and absorption package.
Pricing and Availability
Mercedes has not yet disclosed the pricing or availability of the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. However, considering the Maybach versions of the S-Class and EQS SUV are priced above £200,000, it is expected that the Maybach SL will command a significant premium over the standard SL, which already costs nearly £200,000.
The introduction of the Maybach SL follows the recent unveiling of the SL-based Purespeed concept by AMG. This Formula 1-inspired speedster previews a new line of ultra-exclusive ‘Mythos’ special editions.
