McLaren P1 GTR to be converted into drift hypercar by Lazante

Mad Mike Whiddett and Lazante Team Up to Transform McLaren P1 GTR into Drift Hypercar

Introduction

Renowned driver Mad Mike Whiddett and engineering firm Lazante have joined forces to create an exceptional drift car project known as the “MadMac.” This project involves transforming a McLaren P1 GTR into a drift-spec hypercar just in time for the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024.

Project Details

The McLaren P1 GTR donor car has already left Lazante’s UK workshop and is on its way to Mad Mike Whiddett’s lab in New Zealand for final modifications. The drift-focused hypercar features wider fenders, oversized canards on the front bumper, and carbon fiber components such as the splitter, engine cover, and rear wing. The suspension and chassis setup will be overhauled to suit its new role as a drift car.

Project Inspiration

According to Dean Lazante, the idea for the project came about when Mad Mike visited their Goodwood stand last year. The drifting expert expressed his excitement about pushing the McLaren project to its limits and showcasing it around the world in a sideways manner.

Experience and Expertise

Lazante has extensive experience working with McLaren P1 models, having converted track-only GTR units into street-legal versions and creating stunning projects like the P1 Spider. On the other hand, Mad Mike Whiddett is known for his innovative builds, including the Lamborghini Huracan “Nimbul” and the RWD-converted Mazda3.

Future Plans

More details about the MadMac project will be revealed as development progresses towards completion. The McLaren P1 GTR drift car will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July before participating in other events organized by the O’Gara Coach luxury group based in Beverly Hills, California.
