Mercedes-AMG Introduces SL 43 Entry Trim in USA

Mercedes-Benz has announced the release of its new entry-level model, the SL 43 roadster. Despite being an entry-level model, the SL 43 still carries a six-figure price tag and boasts impressive performance figures. The car features a 2.0L turbocharged engine that has been modified by AMG and comes equipped with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger. This technology is a direct derivative of developments used by the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team, making it a brag-worthy feature for owners to share with friends.

The turbocharger is operated via the car’s 48-volt electrical system, which also feeds the belt-driven starter-generator. The turbo can spin at speeds up to 170,000 rpm, producing an output of 375 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. The SL 43 is exclusively rear-wheel drive and comes with an AMG 9-speed automatic transmission. It can reach 60 mph in less than 5 seconds.

Despite its small-displacement engine, the SL 43 is not to be underestimated. The R129-era V12 convertible had just 14 more horsepower than the SL 43, despite having three times as many cylinders. The R129 was also available with a six-pot engine making just 228 horsepower, proving that a smaller engine can still pack a punch.

The SL 43 retains many of the interior features that make the current SL a luxurious ride. The car comes equipped with an 11.9-inch central touchscreen that can be electrically adjusted from 12 to 32 degrees, heated and cooled seats, Nappa leather, and an LCD instrument cluster.

The SL 43 will be available in American dealerships this summer. Despite its entry-level status, the SL 43 is a powerful and luxurious roadster that is sure to impress Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts.
