Mercedes-AMG Recall Due to Leaky Wiring | Giga Gears

**Mercedes-AMG Models Recalled for Transmission Wiring Harness Issue**

**Recall Details**
– The first recall affects specific Mercedes-AMG models manufactured between 2017 and 2022.
– Mercedes has identified a potential issue where water could enter the transmission wiring harness connector, leading to a short circuit.
– The second recall involves 1,058 units of the 2022-2023MY C 300 models.

**Recall Reason**
Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for several Mercedes-AMG models in the United States due to concerns regarding the transmission wiring harness connection. Water intrusion into the connector could result in a short circuit, potentially causing thermal overload and increasing the risk of a fire. Owners will receive a warning message on the instrument cluster indicating a ‘4MATIC malfunction’ before any short circuit occurs.

**Previous Recall**
This marks the second time Mercedes-Benz has recalled vehicles for the same fault. The carmaker believes that certain transmission wiring harnesses may not have been adequately inspected or reworked during the previous recall repair.

**Affected Vehicles**
A total of 16,967 vehicles in the US, including models like the Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4Matic+, E 53 4Matic+ Sedan, E 53 4Matic+ Coupe, E 53 4Matic+ Cabriolet, GT 43 4Matic+, and GT 53 4Matic+, are part of this recall. These vehicles were built between August 29, 2017, and April 20, 2022.

**Repair Process**
Owners will be notified before August 13, and dealers will replace the two-part wiring harness, including the connector.

**Additional Recall**
Mercedes-Benz has also issued a separate recall for 1,058 units of the 2022-2023MY C 300 models in the US. This recall addresses a potential issue with a bolt securing an electrical wire to the pre-fuse box in the passenger footwell. If not adequately tightened, this connection could lead to increased resistance, elevated temperatures, and a higher risk of fire. Dealers will inspect and rework the wiring harness connection to the pre-fuse box if necessary.
