Mercedes Recalls 2 C-Class Models for Wiring Harness Issue

Mercedes Recalls Nearly 10,000 Cars Due to Wiring Harness Issues

Mercedes has issued a recall for a total of 9,730 cars due to two separate issues related to wiring harnesses. These problems can potentially cause the affected cars to malfunction. The German automaker will be inspecting and repairing the issues on an as-needed basis.

The models affected by both recalls are the 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43 and the 2022-2023 C300 sedan. While it is unclear how much overlap there is between the two recalls, one recall includes a significantly larger number of cars than the other.

The first recall involves 8,178 cars, with all but four being of the C300 variety. Mercedes has identified a potential issue with the transmission wiring harness chafing on the drive shaft. If this occurs, it could damage the wiring harness and result in a loss of vehicle propulsion.

In the second recall, 1,552 cars are affected, with 46 of them being the AMG variety and the rest being regular C300s. The problem in this case is a loose ground bolt connection, which could lead to increased resistance in the wiring harness. This increased resistance could cause the wiring harness to heat up, posing a potential risk of fire.

It is worth noting that these issues do not appear to be with the same wiring harness, although some cars may be included in both recalls. The larger recall references different part numbers than the smaller recall, and each recall has a different parts supplier. In both cases, authorized service technicians will inspect the wiring harnesses to determine if any repairs are necessary.

Mercedes advises that drivers are unlikely to receive any warning signs if their car is affected by these issues. To find out if their C-Class vehicle is involved in the recall, owners can contact their local dealer or visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website at NHTSA.gov.

Recalls are not uncommon in the automotive industry, as manufacturers strive to ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicles. It is crucial for owners to respond promptly to recall notices and have their vehicles inspected and repaired as necessary. Neglecting to address these issues can potentially lead to accidents or other safety hazards.

In the case of these Mercedes recalls, the company is taking proactive measures to address the wiring harness issues. By conducting inspections and repairs as needed, they are prioritizing the safety of their customers and working to prevent any potential malfunctions or accidents.

If you own a 2023 Mercedes-AMG C43 or a 2022-2023 C300 sedan, it is essential to check if your vehicle is included in these recalls. Contact your local dealer or visit the NHTSA website for more information. By taking prompt action and having your vehicle inspected, you can ensure that it is safe and reliable for your daily use.

Mercedes is committed to providing high-quality vehicles, and this recall demonstrates their dedication to addressing any potential issues promptly. As a car owner, it is crucial to stay informed about recalls and take the necessary steps to keep your vehicle in optimal condition. Regular maintenance and prompt response to recalls are key to ensuring your safety on the road.
